Leanna is a master’s candidate at the School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP) at UBC. She comes from a communication research background, and her past research has explored uses of technology for grassroots empowerment and community development. She currently works in the capacity of community planning and policy development at Kwikwetlem First Nation. She also sits on the Board of Directors for the Green Lake Area Ratepayers Association, and is working to expand the stewardship efforts of this organization in the Green Lake and Watch Lake area in the Southern Interior of BC. She hopes her involvement with the Water Planning Lab allows her to further explore collaborative watershed management and governance, specifically in the areas of grassroots movements and civil society empowerment, as well as traditional use and knowledge in watershed management.
Leanna graduated in 2016 with her project “Towards First Nations watershed co-management in Metro Vancouver: a case of Kwikwetlem First Nation and the Coquitlam River Watershed” |
