Michael McBurnie | Master’s Student

Michael is a graduate student in the Master of Community and Regional Planning program.  His focus is on urban systems, with a view toward sustainability and resiliency.  This is his second lap at UBC.  Prior to SCARP, he completed a BASc here in Electrical Engineering.  He worked in energy systems design and systems commissioning, most recently coordinating commissioning on a major environmental upgrade project at an operating smelter.  His goal in becoming a ‘plangineer’ is to blend the technical and social sides of design, finding solutions that are efficient as well as inclusive and reflective.  He is currently working on SEEDS studies benchmarking building and irrigation water consumption on campus, to help identify and prioritize water conservation and efficiency efforts.
